Nyaung-U (Burmese: ညောင်ဦးမြို့) is the administrative town of Nyaung-U Township of Nyaung-U Districtin the Mandalay Region of central Myanmar. It lies on the eastern bank of Ayeyarwaddy River. It is just 4 kilometers away from old Bagan, a popular tourist attraction.[1] The Shwezigon Pagoda is located there. The other popular places in and around Nyaung-U were [2]

The 8.10 inches (203 mm) rainfall of 19 Oct 2011 was the record breaking one for past 47 years. The previous record was 5.67 inches (144 mm) of 9 Oct 1989.[5]

Kyaukpadaung Township is a township of Nyaung-U District (until 2014, part of Myingyan District) in Mandalay Region of Burma (Myanmar). Its administrative seat is the town of Kyaukpadaung. Important towns include Popaywa and Seiktein (Seikhtain).
Geography[edit]
Kyaukpadaung Township is the southwesternmost township in Myingyan District and borders the following:
- Taungtha Township to the north
- Mahlaing Township to the northeast
- Meiktila Township to the east
- Natmauk Township of Magwe Region to the south
- Yenangyaung Township of Magwe Region to the southwest
- Chauk Township of Magwe Region to the west, and
- Nyaung-U Township to the northwest
The township includes Mount Popa, the Popa Taungkalat monastery, the Salay ruins from the 12th and 13th centuries and the Kyetmauk Taung Reservoir.

Kyaukpadaung (Burmese: ကျောက်ပန်းတောင်းမြို့ [tɕaʊʔ bə dáʊɴ mjo̰]) is a town in Mandalay Region in Central Myanmar. It lies just south-west of Mount Popa. It is the administrative seat for Kyaukpadaung Township.

The name of Kyaukpadaung is derived from Kyauk (ကျောက်; Rock) + Pann (ပန်း; Flower) + Taung (တောင်း; Basket).
Kyaukpadaung is also known as the city of Jaggery (ထန်းညက်)
Geography[edit]
Since the name of this town is related to rock. There are some rocky-hills nearby and in town. The extinct Vocalno Mount Popa is about 10 miles from town.
Rock Climbing[edit]
Close to rail way station, there is a rock climbing and bouldering site.
Transportation[edit]
Rail transport has been established since World War II, on the Pyinmana-Kyini Link. Buses and cars operate to and fro nearby townships. Kyaukpadaung is situated on the link road of Yangon-Myingyan-Mandalay road and Yangon-Meiktila-Mandalay.
Communication[edit]
In 1994, telephone system was upgraded, from Manual Switching Exchange to Auto Telephone System. Local Area Code is 061, it was same as Chauk.
Weather[edit]
Kyaukpadaung is located in Hot & Dry zone, and rain measure getting about 40 inch and below. Temperature during Summer: High=36~39'C, Low= 25~28'C, and Winter: High=30~31'C, Low=19~23'C. Popa region is an oasisin central Myanmar.
